Why do we fear death? It is the only thing we know for certain will happen to us and it is the one thing we ALL have in common. No one lives forever, and though we don’t know how and when it will happen, we know for a fact that death will come. So, why is it that we are afraid? Is it perhaps it’s something we don’t want to think about until we are closer to it? Is it because we fear death coming for those close to us? Is it because so many people who did or could have changed the world died before their time? Or is it perhaps the brutality of which some people go? If you think about it, I mean really think about it, all of these fears are tied to the elements that exist before death occurs. Death itself, the final act, is an experience that is entirely misunderstood as there is no one, obviously, living that can explain what it feels like.

Death and what it we think it means is open to interpretation. This is a concept that is uniquely explored in the episode titled The Sound of Her Wings from the 2022 Netflix show The Sandman.

The Sandman (2022) is a show based on the popular comic series created and written by Neil Gaiman.
